| HIST | MIRIAM K. GUMMERSON Posted Sunday, January 29, 2017 6:00 am Miriam K. Gummerson, 86, wife of Alfred S. "Al" Gummerson, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. Born Oct. 13, 1930, in Timmonsville, she was a daughter of the late Willie Larry and Sadie Knotts Kirby. She was a longtime member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church and Sumter Elks Lodge No. 855. She was employed by Campbell Soup Company for 16 years. Survivors include: her husband of 66 years; four children, Dr. William M. Gummerson (Carrie) of Boone, North Carolina, Curtis L. Gummerson of Sumter, Doris M. Barnette (Mark) of Wedgefield and Karen L. Hyatt (Eddie Dew) of Sumter; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Spears (Grover) of Hartsville and Violet Brown of Dundalk, Maryland. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Sweet, the Rev. Jimmy Holley and the Rev. Mark Barnette officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Mixon, Herbert Hudson, Jon McFaddin, Eddie Newman, John Privette and Jordan Barnette. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Northside Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church and other times at the home of her daughter, Karen Hyatt, 1785 Titanic Court. Memorials may be made to the Critical Care Unit at Palmetto Health Richland, c/o Palmetto Health Foundation, PO Box 247, Columbia, SC 29202 or to Northside Memorial Baptist Church, 1004 North Main St., Sumter, SC 29153.
