Mr. Manning was a prosperous planter and statesman, instrumental in the formation of Dillon County, and elected as Dillon County's first senator. Mr. Manning and his family originally lived in the Little Rock section of Dillon county, and in 1905 began building this stately brick mansion in Latta which I'm told took two years to complete. The home is spacious, approximately 7,500 sq. ft. of floor space, and its exterior walls are said to be 18 inches of solid brick. The old Manning home is today known as Abingdon Manor, an elegant and charming bed and breakfast (B&B) inn. Views of the home's beautiful interior and grounds may be found at the Abingdon Manor website. Photo of Abingdon Manor 2001 by Benton Henry, native of Latta.
