| HIST | Welcome to the memorial page for Joanne Kellihan Hammond November 28, 1932 ~ May 21, 2010 (age 77) SHARE USING: Obituary Service Details Guest Book / Condolences Send Flowers & Sympathy Gifts Obituary Service Details Joanne Kellihan Hammond, 77, of Cerro Gordo, passed away Friday, May 21, at her home. She was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Kellihan and Esther Belle Weavil Kellihan. Mrs. Hammond, who dedicated over forty years of faithful teaching service to West Columbus High School, was an elegant, refined, and brilliant lady. She loved life, and she loved sharing her love of life with others. Henry Wordsworth Longfellow wrote, "Lives of great men all remind us/We can make our lives sublime/And, departing, leave behind us/Footprints on the sands of time/Footprints, that perhaps another/Sailing o'er life's solemn main/A forlorn and shipwrecked brother/Seeing, shall take heart again/Let us, then, be up and doing/With a heart for any fate/Still achieving, still pursuing/Learn to labor and to wait." Joanne Hammond was an inspiration to all those who knew her as she guided them down many a narrow path. Her greatness will not be forgotten, and those who consider her dear will carry her with them wherever it is that they may go. Mrs. Hammond is survived by her husband, Troy "Shorty" McDuffie Hammond, Jr., her brother, Michael William Kellihan and wife, Joanne, her daughter-in-law, Pamela Edwards Hammond, and three granddaughters, Joanna Alena Hammond, Amanda Lauren Hammond, and Stephanie Heather Leigh Anne Hammond. Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her beloved son, Dale McDuffie Hammond. Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church, where Mrs. Hammond was a longtime member. Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Hill, Jason Whitehead, Harold Thompson, Gene Nance, Glenn Thompson, and Dr. Danny McPherson | |
