- Thomas was the first of the family to venture the voyage to a new
country, which he did in 1820, landing in New York in June of that year.
He made his way to Pittsburg, purchased a canoe and with a friend
paddled down the Ohio river landing at Lawrenceburg, IN.
Later in November he married Ann (Mason) Sutton, ateacher of
Hardentown, a village near Lawrenceburg. She was a woman of fine
character and courage, and shared a worthy part in the founding of the
pioneer colony in Miller township some four years later. Children:
Charles Sutton (accounted a member of the family), born 18 Dec 1819.
Mary Ann, vorn 28 Feb 1822, died 15 Jun 1894. Richard Mason, born 12
Jul 1823, died 24 Dec 1893. Thomas, born 22 Jan 1825, died 24 Aug
1900. Elizabeth, born 3 Mar 1828, died 4 Mar 1910. Martha Jane, born 10
