BARKLEY Marie McLeod Barkley, 95, widow of Louie Barkley Sr., passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 29, 1914, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Minnie Turner McLeod. Mrs. Barkley was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Barkley Avins (Charles) of Sumter; three sisters, Christine Hodge, Doris Windham and Audrey McLeod, all of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sons, Joseph Barkley, Larvie Barkley, Louie Barkley Jr. and William Barkley; a daughter, Gladys Ann Hinson; a granddaughter, Mary Frances Varner; two brothers, Bert McLeod and John McLeod; two sisters, Edith Griffin and Kathleen McLeod; and her stepmother, Doffee McLeod. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. G.W. Harrell and the Rev. Dale Turner officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Nazarene Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at 750 Pridgen Lane. Memorials may be made to New Start Community Church of the Nazarene, 4686 J.W. Rhames Road, Manning, SC 29102.
