Reaves Robert Eugene Reaves, 90, widower of Miriam Gainey Reaves, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at his home. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Albert E. and Mary Boswell Reaves. Mr. Reaves was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a retired senior chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 15, the Fleet Reserve Association, and he was a Master Mason. Survivors include two sons, James R. "Jim" Reaves (Mary) of Noblesville, Ind., and Thomas E. "Tom" Reaves (Brenda) of Sumter; four grandchildren, Lindsay Cuttino (Tillman III) of Simpsonville, Kelly McLeod (Troy) of Junction City, Kan., Ryan Pfahl (Kyle) of Columbus, Ohio, and Stephen Reaves (Stephanie) of Noblesville; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Lee Powell of Myrtle Beach. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church fellowship hall and other times at 250 Mallard Drive. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Global Missions Fund, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
