Smith, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011, in Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. Croft and the late Edith Hatfield Croft. Mrs. Smith was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene and also attended Green Acres Assembly of God. She had retired from Farmer's Telephone Cooperative. Survivors include her husband; two sons, James M. Barwick, Jr. of Sumter, and Charles Wesley Barwick (Lori) of Manning; a daughter, Susan Barwick Cheek (Steve) of Greenville; her grandchildren; three brothers, David Croft, Tim Croft and Mark Croft, all of Sumter; and a sister, Kay Beal of Sumter. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James M. Barwick, Sr.; and three brothers, Charles L. Croft, Jr., Benjamin Croft and James Croft. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Greg Pressley and the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her sister, 1121 Oriole Circle. Memorials may be made to Sumter First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 Patriot Parkway, Sumter, SC 29154. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
