| HIST | This source says there were no children. George W. Hutchinson enlisted as a Private, December 27, 1861, at Columbia, South Carolina in Captian J. W. Norwood’s Company H, 18th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers (Company H subsequently became Company I). He served until his death on 7th day of Sept 1862 at which time he died of the disease (Cholera) in the WInder Hospital at Richmond, Virginia. The following is quoted from records received from the National Archives, Washington, DC. “The within named G. W. Hutchinson a musician of Co. I, 18th Reg’t, SCV age 27 years, five feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes and by occupation when enlisted, a mechanic, was enlisted by Capt J. W. Norwood on the 27th day of Dec 1861 to serve for the War.” [2] | |
