Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late L.H. Sr. and Mary Denton Hatfield. Surviving are a daughter, Holly Baird of Columbia; four brothers, Roger Hatfield, Ernest Dexter Hatfield, Burton McPherson Hatfield and James J. Hatfield, all of Sumter; three sisters, Eleanor Nesbitt, Katherine Godwin and Sylvia Richburg, all of Sumter; four grandchildren, William Tyler, Elizabeth Tyler Kegler, Erin Baird and Lorraine Baird; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Hatfield officiating.
