RUTH LEWIS REARDON
Ruth Lewis Reardon, 84, widow of William I. Reardon Sr., died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, in Rock Hill, where she lived the past three months. Prior to moving to Rock Hill, she lived in Sumter for 70 years. Born Jan. 3, 1925, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late William Morgan Lewis Sr. and Anna Ruth Touchberry Lewis. Mrs. Reardon was a long standing member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a children's worker for many years, served as moderator of the Presbyterian Women, and served on the library and archives board. She also served as a deacon and elder and was honored as an elder emerita. She received the honorary life membership of Presbyterian Women. She was employed by Sumter School District 17 for 20 years.
Surviving are two sons, William I. Reardon Jr. (Jackie) of Rock Hill and Robert Lewis Reardon (Gina) of Tega Cay; a grandson, William Bryan Reardon (Rebecca); three great-grandchildren, Claire, Ethan and Logan Rowe of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Esther Lewis Reynolds (Eldridge) of Sumter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary L. Dunn, Louise L. Bradham and Martha Lewis; and three brothers, William Morgan Lewis Jr., John Benjamin Lewis and Edward Thomas Lewis.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Sumter, followed by a graveside service at Sumter Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. Mark Durrett, First Presbyterian, Sumter, and Dr. Boyce Wilson, Ebenezer Presbyterian, Rock Hill.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will visit with friends in the church parlor from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. as well as at the graveside.
