| HIST | MELVIN RITTER SMITH Posted Sunday, August 27, 2017 6:00 am BISHOPVILLE - Funeral services for Melvin Ritter Smith, 95, who died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Ashwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Atkinson will officiate, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Bobby Lee Smith will be assisting at the graveside. The family will receive friends following the service. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials may be made to The Gideons International, Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, D.C. 20090-7251. Born in Patrick, he was the fourth of six children of the late William R. and Thelma Scott Smith. He was a deacon of Ashwood Baptist Church and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He retired from DuPont after 33 years of service as a tech lab technician. He served his country during World World II in the United States Army, serving in Italy, Sicily, Africa and Germany. He was an avid camper who loved to fish and hunt. He is survived by his sons, Bobby Lee (Nancy) Smith of Lugoff and Don (Donna R. Kea-Smith) Smith of Camden; daughter, Annette S. (Steve) Blankenship of Olanta; and eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. [1] | |
