Brewer Jr., 89, husband of Maggie Lee Dawkins Brewer, died on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at McLeod Health Clarendon. Born on Oct. 26, 1932, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Harry J. Sr. and Elizabeth Hutto Brewer. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Brewer served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from B.L. Montague Co. after more than 40 years of service and later worked as a security officer at Tuomey Regional Medical Center and courier for NBSC. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery. Survivors in addition to his wife of Manning include three children, Mary Linda Brewer and Stanley Brewer (Kathy), both of Sumter, and Edward "Eddie" Brewer (Angela) of Hartsville; six stepchildren, Sandra Lambert (Elmer) and Cindy Ward (Dexter), both of Lambert Town, Sheryl Tisdale (James) of Paxville, Danny Hutson (Pam) and Donnie Hutson (Patricia), both of Manning, and S.A. Hutson (Debbie) of West Virginia; four grandchildren, Samantha Thomas (Jeremy), Ryan Brewer (Heather), Erin Lynch (Kyle) and Reed Brewer (Heather); six great-grandchildren, Gabriel Thomas, Magdalene Thomas, Simon Thomas, Caroline Lynch, Jaxon Lynch and Logan Brewer; one brother, Ernest Brewer of Indian Land; two sisters, Faye Nettles Robbs (Butch) of Sumter and Teressa Robinson (Gerald) of Indian Land; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Floreed McLeod Brewer; a brother, Bobby Coulter; two sisters, Margie Waters and Marguerite Barwick; and a stepdaughter, Patsy Cantlon. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Austin Hilbish, the Rev. Chris Moore and the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Reed Brewer, Gabriel Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Kyle Lynch, James "Jimmy" Nettles, Joey Williams and James Tisdale. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bethel Senior Men's Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday at Bethel Baptist Church and other times at the home of his daughter, 3290 Nazarene Church Road.
