A Bishopville woman died Friday afternoon after a wreck in Columbia (South Carolina) when the car she was riding in pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle. ¶ Kathryn W. Shirley, 69, of 146 Shirley Road died at Palmetto Health Richland (Hospital, Richland County, South Carolina) about 6 p.m. after a crash on Two Notch Road (Columbia, South Carolina) about 4:40 p.m. ¶ According to Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson, Shirley was a passenger in a 1999 Mercedes driven by Marvin L. Shirley, 64, of the same address. Mr. Shirley was transported to Richland where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Another passenger in the car, Savannah Wilhelm, 4, was not injured during the accident. ¶ Robinson said Mr. Shirley’s vehicle was traveling north on Two Notch Road when it attempted a left turn onto Risley Road, driving into the path of an oncoming 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Edward McIntosh, 43, of 1933 Columbia Highway, Estill. McIntosh’s vehicle struck the right side of the Mercedes. ¶ Reports indicate both Mr. and Mrs. Shirley, the child and McIntosh were wearing seat belts when the wreck occurred. ¶ Robinson said the accident is still under investigation.
