HIST | This has to be the correct Billie A. Brunson for the following obituary. If he volunteered in December 1942, then he couldn’t have been at Camp Pendleton for a year and then went to the Pacific and died about Jun-Jul of 1943. I think he was only at Camp Pendleton for a couple of months for training. jkh CPL. Billie A. Brunson killed in Pacific Area Sumter, S.C. July 3 - News of the death in action in the Pacific war area of Cpl. Billie A. Brunson, 22, USMA, has been received by his father, J.Q. Brunson of the Concord section of Sumter county. No details are known. Cpl. Brunson was graduated in 1941 from Edmunds High school, where he played on the football eleven. He worked with the U.S. engineers in the construction of Shaw field and Congaree Air base, but volunteered in December, 1942. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, for a year before going overseas. He leaves his father, four sisters, and four brothers. [1] | |
