HIST | WILLIAM SHAW SHULER Posted Wednesday, March 27, 2019 6:00 am William Shaw "Bill" Shuler, 89, beloved husband of Bunnie Brogdon Shuler, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 25, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Hal D. and Florence Shaw Shuler. After graduating from Edmunds High School, Bill attended Clemson University and graduated with the Class of 1952. He was a longtime IPTAY member and a loyal Tiger fan. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict. Bill was always very proud to have been able to serve his country. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Bunnie Brogdon, in 1955. He also began his 39-year career working for Southern Coatings Paint and Chemical Co. He served his community through Kiwanis Club, American Legion and United Ministries. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, the Benevolence Committee and many others. He was also honored with the designation of life deacon. Bill loved traveling, fishing, collecting knives, woodworking, time with his many friends, playing bridge and spending time with family at Edisto Beach. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bunnie Shuler; daughters, Becky Lynch (Mike) and Patti Greene (Thomas); sons, Hal Shuler (Bess) and Gil Shuler (Robin). He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Geoffrey (Sharon), Emily (Matt), Molly (Blake), Maddy (Britton), Will (Caitlin), Andy (Whitney), Tillye (Rob), Nick, Judson, Becca and Chandler; and six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Emma, Drew, Piper, Leo and Atley. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 3350 E. Brewington Road. Pallbearers will be Bill's grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be the Triune Sunday School class and active and inactive deacons of First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home. The family is grateful to Amedisys Hospice Sumter and Marilyn Brooks for their love and care. Please make all memorials to First Baptist Church, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
