ALCOLU - Jewell Richburg Lowder, 92, widow of Marshall Leslie Richburg and Clyde Lowder, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at White Oak Manor in Columbia.
Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Willie Arthur Richburg and the late Jenny Gertrude Ridgeway Richburg. Family and friends were Jewell's passion and delight. Her devotion and strong religious faith sustained this tiny woman of boundless energy and a strong sense of duty who believed intensely in the importance of family. She worked tirelessly to provide that belief and raised five sons, followed by 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren in a house that always seemed to hold the aroma of freshly baked biscuits along with her homemade jams and jellies.
She is survived by four sons, Julius William Richburg of Columbia, Marshall Edward Richburg (Melissa) of Swansea, Larry Richburg (Debbie) of Eastover and James L. Richburg (Mary) of Columbia; a brother, Charles Olden Richburg of Sumter; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gerald Richburg; two brothers, Jessie Edward Richburg and William Arthur Richburg; and two sisters, Ruby L. Brown and Cecil C. Richburg.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home.
