In 1972, he changed careers and joined Tom McTeer Real Estate in Columbia, South Carolina. Years later, he joined the Keenan Company. Cdr U. S. Navy World War II Purple Heart marker attached inside brick fence he served in the local National Guard and joined the U. S. Navy at the beginning of World War II; after attending officer candidate school in New York City, New York, he went on to serve as an ensign on the USS Meredith, aboard which he escorted the Doolittle Raid. His ship was suck at the Battle of Guadalcanal. He also served as a lieutenant commander in later battles and retired from the Navy as a commander. [4, 10] |
