KATHERINE JONES
Katherine Virginia Cromer Jones, widow of Ashley Gibson Jones, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.
She was born Nov. 14, 1922, to the late Paul Simpson Cromer and Mamie Belle King Cromer. She retired first from the Holiday Inn in Summerton as restaurant manager. She was also the manager of the Econo Mart in North Summerton. She was a member of the Summerton Presbyterian Church. After her retirement, she moved to Sumter where she attended Wise Drive Baptist Church. She was a beautiful, caring and kindhearted mother and Nana who was greatly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Robert "Robbie" Cromer Jones of Columbia; her daughter and son-in-law, Markeeta "Martie" J. Hatchell (Henry) of Charleston; her grandsons, Ty Alan Green (Marybeth), Dr. Bryan Everett Green (Dr. Amanda) and Dr. Matthew Lee Hatchell (Dr. Alisha); great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine Green, Branson Green, Langston Green and Hanna Hatchell; a very special person, Gary W. McGhee; three step-grandchildren, Hank, Celeste and Brett Hatchell; a brother, Proctor Cromer (Lois); a sister, Doris C. Strickland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first son, Richard Alan Jones; a brother, James Cromer (Sudie); a sister, Vivian Price (Hilton); and a brother-in-law, Berry Strickland.
The family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Place for their never ending care and support given to our mother during her years of residency there.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Dearld Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Summerton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
