Hattie was a sister of Nettie Boston, and the only sister I remember seeing. Hattie lived in Gilbert, Arizona, and drove an old (1929?) Model T. Hattie died when I was about 12, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. I remember my mother being upset that no one told her that Hattie was in the hospital, or she would have gone to visit her. Thelma died not know of Hattie's passing until after the funeral. (And then only vecause she read about it in the newspaper obituary?)
Hattie had two sons.
Per Thelma in APR 1995: the sons were Pink and Emmett.
Per Trena on 12 APR 1992: the sons were Pink and Roy.
Pink is the only son I remember. He was married to Velma, and there were children. (number? 5 or 6? A son and a daughter were near my age.)
Pink and family lived in Glendale, Arizona in late 1930's. He was a cottonpicker, but he earned more money than Robert (my Dad) did as a truck driver. That must have been before the teamsters' union was organized.
As I recall, I was told that Hattie rode horseback through the brush in Gordon Canyon without wearing chaps.
The other tale I heard about Hattie took place in the early 1900's, on Fish Creek Hill (on the Apache Trail) in Arizona. Cars were fairly new, but the Hendersons had one. When they were at the top of the Hill Hattie refused to go down it in the car, so she and her two little boys got out and walked to the bottom. When they got to the bottom they found the car wrecked, and Mr. Henderson dead. Thelma said something had been told to her about cows at the bottom. (There is a creek there.) Even now it's scary to go up Fish Creek Hill!.
