HIST | He died en route to White Sulphur Springs, Virginia, and was buried on a strange plantation. The next winter his father, RIchard Sr., sent a wagon for his coffin and found the body petrified. He had it placed in the drawing room at Home Place and would not allow it to be buried, refusing to listen to pleas of his family. After some time, his wife asked Colonel Hampton and B. F. Taylor to intervene. The body finally was interred in the family cemetery, and Richard’s twin, Matthew, adopted the name Matthew Richard Singleotn. [4] | |
