Kirk McLeod Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Warren Hamilton Burgess and Daisy Munnerlyn Burgess. Mrs. McLeod was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. She was also a member of the First Families of South Carolina, the Cotillion Club, the Assembly and numerous book clubs. Surviving is one son, R. Kirk McLeod Jr., of Sumter; one daughter, Burgess McLeod Alessandro and husband, Charles, of Sumter; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Dr. John M. Barr and the Rev. Marcus Kaiser officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, R. Kirk McLeod III, Ryan A. McLeod, Chad H. McLeod, Cord Kilpatrick, Edwin Corning, Roland Corning, Frank McLeod III, John McLeod, John Britton and Murray Fant. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter. Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, 213 N. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to York Place Episcopal Church Home for Children, 234 Kings Mountain St., York, SC 29745.
