Anna Louise Avin Ward, 90, widow of Henry T. Ward, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at her home.
Born on Oct. 15, 1923, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Lucius Edward and Rosa Griffin Avin. Mrs. Ward was a charter member of Westside Baptist Church. She was also a member of American Legion Post 15 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Henry "Mac" Ward (Geraldine); four daughters, Nettie Weatherford, Mary Lois Geddings, Beverly Gagne and Gloria Miller (David), all of Sumter; nine grandsons, Steve (Renee), Johnny (Kay), Mike (Balinda) and Joey Ward, Craig (Andrea) and Todd (Tammy) Weatherford, Marty (Donna) Geddings, and Lee (Kathy) and David (Jenny) Springs; three step-grandsons, Joe and Kenny Gagne and Curtis Geddings (Estelle); five granddaughters, Chloe Ward, Christine W. (Bobby) Belk, Pam G. Cusumano, Dana G. (Cliff) Turner and Donna G. (Chris) Hickman; three step-granddaughters, Debbie G. (Ray) McBride, Denise G. (Robin) Stamps and Dellanie G. (Billy) Austin; 23 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Thomas Daniel "Danny" and Joseph Edward "Ed" Ward; a daughter-in-law, Abbie Baker Ward; two sisters, Myrtle A. Broach and Camilla A. Carson; and five brothers, Perry, Ralph, Eddie, Orrie and Ollie Avin.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Daniel Settle and the Rev. Aaron Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Henry T. Ward Cemetery, Wardland Road, Sumter.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Marie Staley, Gayla Partin and Cynthia Culler of Amedisys Hospice Care for their compassionate and loving care of their mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church Roof & Air Conditioning Fund, 554 Pinewood Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
