| HIST | Lalla Spratt Lalla Lee Hay Spratt, 99, widow of Robert M. Spratt, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at Covenant Place. A longtime resident of Sumter, she was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Timmonsville. She was a daughter of the late Clarence B. and Lalla Hepburn Hay. Mrs. Spratt moved to Sumter in 1914, graduated from Sumter Girls High School in 1930 and began working as bookkeeper and stenographer for Shaw Lumber Co. in 1931, from which she retired in 2001. She joined Trinity United Methodist Church in 1921 and was active in the work of the church. Surviving are four cousins; two goddaughters, Barbara Hanner and husband, T.G., of Greenville, and Martha Hoover and husband, Vincent, of Mount Pleasant; and dear friends, Anne Wynn Johnson and husband, Frank, of Barnwell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Hamer Hay McLellan; and a brother, Cogdell Hepburn Hay. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Gorry officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church parlor.
