Posted Saturday, September 9, 2023 6:00 am Hayward Dewey Pack Sr., 76, husband of Jeanne Price Pack, died on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Carl and Lottie Brown Pack. Mr. Pack was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and attended Alice Drive Baptist Church. He was a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason of Dalzell Lodge 431 AFM and also a member of Iris Chapter 149 Order of Eastern Star. He was a retired school bus mechanic with the State Department of Education. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Hayward Dewey Pack Jr. (Mary) and Darryl James Price; two daughters, Christina Gail Pack (Brett) and Jennifer Price Oakley (Keith); two brothers, Robert Pack (Sylvia) and Benjamin Pack (Deborah); four sisters, Mary Brown, Betty Watford, Lottie Anderson (Elvis) and Carleen Scott (Glen); and eight grandchildren, Ashleigh McElveen Johnson (Bart), Noah Holland, Andi Layne Coker, Amber Holland Coker (Jerry), Jeremy Holland, Allison Sarah McElveen, Kenneth James Oakley and Nuala Ingram. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Gainey Pack; three brothers, Carl Edward Pack, Gilbert Pack and William Pack; and two sisters, Dorothy Pack DuBose and Irene Pack. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Hal Thompson and the Rev. Wayne McElveen officiating.
