Eagerton turned 18 and registered for the draft with only a couple of months remaining before high school graduation. As fate would have it, one week before graduation, Eagerton was told to report to Manning for duty in the United States Army. ROBERT SAMUEL EAGERTON SR. Posted Wednesday, January 22, 2020 6:00 am SUMMERTON - Robert Samuel Eagerton Sr., 94, widower of Edna Mae Brunson Eagerton, died on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at NHC of Lexington. Born on March 24, 1925, in St. Stephen, he was a son of the late Henry Council Eagerton and Cleopatra Elliott Eagerton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a Mason, a member of American Legion Post 68 and a member of Summerton United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Eagerton Prevatte (John) of Columbia; three sons, Dr. Robert S. Eagerton Jr. (Bonnie) of Manning, Dr. David Henry Eagerton (Susan) of Benson, North Carolina, and Dr. Donald Charles Eagerton (Jamie) of Myrtle Beach; eight grandchildren, Neathery Elliott (Teige), Robert M. Eagerton (Janice), Erin E. Eagerton, Megan Prevatte DeFeo (Joe), Jessica P. Mowery (Alex), Thomas J. Eagerton, Matthew D. Eagerton and Rebecca S. Eagerton; seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Caroline Eagerton Waterbury of San Antonio, Texas, Josephine E. Wallace of Columbia, Claire E. Snyder of Charleston and Adeline Goddard of Williston, North Carolina. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Edna Margaret Eagerton; a brother; and four sisters. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Francis E. Traxler Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Elliott Family Cemetery in Panola. Pallbearers will be Teige Elliott, Rob Eagerton, Thomas Eagerton, Matthew Eagerton, Alex Mowery and Dwight Stewart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Summerton United Methodist Church, P.O.
