Butler Sr., died on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at her daughter's home in Columbia. Born on Feb. 13, 1926, in Sumter, she was a daughter of David and Irene Avins McLeod. Mrs. Butler was a retired South Carolina Department of Social Services employee. She was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Jean Frierson of Columbia; her son, William J. Butler Jr. of North Charleston; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Fraser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday at the church.
