Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home & Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter. WILLIAM J. BUTLER William J. Butler, 90, husband of 68 years of Louise McLeod Butler, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at his home. Born July 15, 1920, in Sumter, he was a son of the late John Pressley Sr. and Julia Camilla Hurst Butler. Mr. Butler was a decorated U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a retired employee of SCE&G. He was a member of Earlwood Masonic Lodge 371 and a recently baptized member of Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one daughter, Barbara J. Frierson of Columbia; one son, W.J. Butler Jr. of North Charleston; five grandchildren, W. Gene Frierson, Tina L. Follo, W. Jason Butler, Julia I. Frierson and Trent M. Butler; eight great-grandchildren, Magan Rodriquez, Ashley Caughman, Amber Caughman, Alexis Butler, Dakota Wooddy, Nicole Follo, Emmie Butler and W.J. "Will" Butler; two sisters, Minnie Vandiver of Riverdale, Ga., and Dorothy Veronee of Summerville; and longtime family friend, D. Furman Kneece. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Hendricks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be W. Gene Frierson, W. Jason Butler, Jimmy Ardis, Wayne Beheler, Joe Henry "Little Joe" Carter and Arturo Rodriquez. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Frierson, Jason Follo and Kevin Ardis.
