She was born in 1938, in Cope, a daughter of the late Robert A. McMillan Sr. and Mildred Free McMillan. Martha worked as a quality control supervisor for Exide Battery and retired after 22 years of service. She served as a past president of the Sumter Wine Society and was a past member of the Sumter Artist Guild. Martha also was one of the founding members of Wise Drive Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by a son, Richard Allen Geddings III of Sumter; three daughters, Martha Lane Geddings Poston of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Amanda McRay Geddings Richards of Joplin, Missouri, and Virginia Starr Geddings Austin of Sumter; three grandchildren, Susan Hampton Austin Taylor, Sara Lindsay Marshall and Caroline Daphine Richards; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by her first husband, Richard A. Geddings Jr.; her second husband, B. Gene Berry; two brothers, R.A. McMillan Jr. and Billy McMillan; and a sister, Sybile Pearce. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Wise Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dearld Sterling officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Wise Drive Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wise Drive Baptist Church, 2751 S. Wise Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or United Ministries, P.O. Box 1017, Sumter, SC 29151.
