| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina of Oswego, South Carolina James L. Rodgers James L. Rodgers, 78, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Furman and Irene Stokes Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and garden. He was a founder and honorary member of the Oswego Hunting Club as well as a member of the Oswego Community Pond. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Jeanne Nelson (Tom) and Pam Wilfong (Mike); one son, Bobby Rodgers (Valerie); five grandchildren, Christina Lang (Leon), Sally Vierra (Justin), Robert Rodgers, Jake Wilfong (Savannah) and Jamie Wilfong; two great-grandchildren, Natalie Lang and Eli Lang; one brother, Mack Rodgers; and one sister, Betty Bradham (Ken). He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Morris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Members of Oswego Hunting Club will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel United Methodist Church and other times at the home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alechia Broughton and Glenda McKnight for the compassionate care they provided to Mr. Rodgers and his family. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 5575 Lodebar Road, Sumter, SC 29153, or to a charity of your choice.
