BURKE Herman Lee Burke, 73, husband of Beverly Brooks Burke, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Lee Howard Burke and the late Mozelle Richburg Burke. Mr. Burke was a member of Autumn Woods Christian Church and a life member of the DAV. He retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also retired from the Sumter County Sheriff's Department. Survivors, besides his wife, include six sons, Jack Burke (Rhona) of Wedgefield, Jerry Burke (Gwen) of Sumter, Stephen Burke (Mona) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Randy Burke (Rae) of Dalzell, Scott Burke (Sherry) of Pinewood and Timothy Reeley (Mary) of Orange Park, Fla.; 28 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters, Evelyn Hinson (Ed), Barbara Barkley, Debbie Bramlett, Gail Lancaster (Cleve) and Alice Vining (George) all of Sumter, Hazel Ellis (John) of Barre, Vt., Leroy Burke (Linda Lee) of Lumberton, N.C., Patsy Carraway of Hazlehurst, Ga., and Linda Broadway (Steve) of Manning, A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Autumn Woods Christian Church, 2490 Sargent Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home, 4635 Dawn Circle, Dalzell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105; or to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45250-0301. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements. Comments: I have gotten so much info from your site.
