STRANGE Sr. James Cuttino Strange Sr., 88, widower of Dorothy Cheves Paige Strange, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at a local nursing center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Henry Rembert and Hallie Loye Kennedy Strange. Mr. Strange was employed by Sumter Machinery Co. In addition, he dedicated much of his time and talents to Trinity Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, served at the Trinity Center, sang in the church choir and quartet, and led the singing for his Sunday school class. He also served as Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and coached Sumter Elks Club little league teams. He was a member of The Dalzell Grange. Surviving are four sons, Rembert Joseph Strange of Hendersonville, N.C., Richard Chevis Strange Sr. of Camden, Phillip Coile Strange of Ridgeville and Kennedy Paige Strange of Wimberley, Texas; a daughter, Loye Irene Strange Diaz of Dalzell; a sister, Loye Strange Lewis of Sumter; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Cuttino Strange Jr.; and three brothers, Rembert Keith, Henry Coile and Oscar Rivers Strange. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
