| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina of Pageland, South Carolina ANNIE LAURIE ATKINSON Posted Tuesday, February 15, 2022 6:00 am Annie Laurie Herrington Atkinson, 88, wife of Kenneth A. Atkinson Sr., her husband of 73 years, died on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at her home in Sumter, surrounded by her family. Born on May 16, 1933, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Ada Nesbitt Herrington. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of Harmony Church. She was retired from AFLAC as a sales agent. She was an active member of both The Gideons and the American Legion Auxiliaries. Mrs. Atkinson accepted Christ as her Savior as a young adult. She actively served in church throughout her life. She was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed serving others. She loved her family very much. Mrs. Atkinson enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends, but most importantly she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Survivors include three children, K.A. "Ken" Atkinson Jr. (Teri) of Surfside Beach, Laurie Lynn Atkinson Lynn (Mike) of Sumter and Paul K. Atkinson Sr. (Robin) of Ridgeway; eight grandchildren, Dawn Soulati (Par), Joy Truesdale (John), K.A. "Tripp" Atkinson III (Courtney), Kevin Lynn (Maree), Laurie Bauer (Jason), Brian Lynn (Lisa), Paul Atkinson Jr. (Whitney) and Lori Safstrom (Dave); 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by four brothers, four sisters and a great-grandson, Trey Watry. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the Family Life Center at Harmony Church, 1021 Sterling St., Sumter, officiated by her grandsons, Dr. Tripp Atkinson, the Rev. Brian Lynn and the Rev. Paul Atkinson Jr. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the Family Life Center at Harmony Church. The family would like to thank those who provided excellent care, love and kindness during her illness, including Tonya, Lindsey, Antoinette and Rosa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1795, Sumter, SC 29151. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
