Born on April 4, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Neal Benjamin Hudson and Ernestine McLeod Hudson. He retired from Santee Print Works after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Mission to Men Choir. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling jokes. Survivors include his wife of 60 years; two children, Kim Hudson Hodge (Mark) of Irmo and Fred E. "Freddie" Hudson Jr. (Maresa) of Sumter; 10 grandchildren, Bobby Hodge (Kristen), Dylan Hodge, Audrey Hodge, Zach Hodge, Fred E. "Tripp" Hudson III, Jake Hudson, Ellie Hudson, Drew Lambert (Nicole), Alyssa Yates (Dylan) and Connor Lambert (Kaela); three great-grandchildren, Cyrus Yates, Ronin Lambert and Reagan Lambert; two brothers, Tommy Hudson (Ruth Ann) and Clyde Hudson (Alice), all of Sumter; a sister, Evelyn Phillips of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed Hudson, Frank Hudson and Roy Hudson; and a sister, Dewlene Hudson. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. John Patrick officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Bobby Hodge, Dylan Hodge, Zach Hodge, Tripp Hudson, Jake Hudson, Drew Lambert and Connor Lambert. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Graham Baptist Church, 4000 U.S. 521 South, Sumter, SC 29153 or to Amedisys Hospice, 198 Wesmark Blvd., Suite 2, Sumter, SC 29150. The family would like to express their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice caregivers, Tina Thompson and Georgia Davis, and to special neighbors, Randy and Lorraine Disher.
