| HIST | of Greenville, South Carolina ROBERT O. PURDY IV Posted Saturday, February 6, 2021 2:00 am EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. — Robert "Rob" O. Purdy IV passed away on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, after a long illness. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 46 years, Susan G. Purdy; and his sons, Ross V. Purdy and Clifford G. Purdy and his wife, Tricia Mango-Purdy. Rob was born on Nov. 5, 1951, to Lillian Garrison Purdy and Robert O. Purdy III and grew up in Sumter with his sister, Jeanne. In his teens, Rob became an Eagle Scout. He attended Thomas Sumter Academy in Dalzell and graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was listed in Who's Who in American colleges and universities and was a member of the Blue Key national leadership fraternity. He spent his career working in various positions in the paper industry, including Unisource, the Paper Pound and Central Lewmar, retiring from Xpedex in 2013. Rob is survived by his sister, Jeanne Joslin and her husband, Scott, of Sumter; his father-in-law, John G. Gallup; sister-in-law, Paula G. Ingalls; brother-in-law, Bruce V. Gallup and his wife, Lindy; nieces and nephews, Kristin Blanchard (Steve Blanchard), Joshua Joslin, Heather Collins (Dennis Collins), Jonathan Joslin, Jacob Joslin, Jonathan Gallup, Holland Gallup and Jesse Joslin; and two great-nephews, Deighton and Arlo Blanchard. Antiquing, attending auctions and gardening were among his favorite activities but, most of all, Rob treasured spending time with his family. He loved nothing better than summer vacations on Cape Cod and cheering on his sons at all of their sporting events, especially lacrosse. His Southern roots were evidenced by his delight in receiving Christmas gifts of boiled peanuts and Duke's mayonnaise from his sister and his preparation of delicious fried chicken for the whole family every Fourth of July. A celebration of Rob's life will be scheduled at a later date when we can all gather together safely. His arrangements have been entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N.
