Atkinson, 74, widower of Rosa Mae Atkinson, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Bishopville, he was a son of the late Purdy and Lula Logan Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was retired from Houser's Supermarket. Survivors include two sons, Larry Lavern Atkinson of Sumter and Gerald Hubert Atkinson of Lexington; a daughter, Gloria J. Atkinson of Sumter; a granddaughter, Leslie Atkinson; two great-grandchildren, Brian Hunter Atkinson and Brody Fisher Atkinson; a brother, James P. Atkinson of Sumter; and two sisters, Ila Herrington of Sumter and Ruth Weatherford of Ashwood. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Stokes, Eliza Tolson, Thelma Elmore and Ola Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Vic VanRas, the Rev. Eddie Pendergrass and Chaplain Agnes McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in Ashwood Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Larry Atkinson, 3840 Hedgewood Drive. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [1, 2, 3, 4]
