Morris Sr. James T. Morris Sr., 88, widower of Ollie Mae Dennis Morris, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Goldman T. and Carrie Victoria Morris. Mr. Morris was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and numerous other positions. His favorite saying was “Keep on keeping on for Jesus.” He retired from Korn Industries after 45 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors include a son, James T. “Jim” Morris Jr. (Brenda) of Sumter; two daughters, Victoria Mixon (Pete) of Sumter and Sandra Baker (Jim) of Beaufort; eight grandchildren, Kevin Mixon, Stephen Mixon, Jimmy Morris III, Brandi Steele, Michael Ridgeway, Heather Keane, Michele Baker and Brian Baker; 14 great-grandchildren, Dakota Ridgeway, Rhiannon Ridgeway, Heather Keane, Crystal Keane, Tanner Keane, Johnathan Keane, Nicholas Caldwell, McKenzie Mixon, Victoria Mixon, Olivia Mixon, Peyton Morris, Lily Morris, Joshua Steele and Maggie Mae Steele; a brother, George Morris of Florence; and a sister, Margaret Marklin of Arnold, Md. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon Morris, Willie Morris and Fred Ray Morris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Palmer, the Rev. Pete Mixon, the Rev. Jim Baker and the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Mixon, Stephen Mixon, Jimmy Morris III, Michael Ridgeway, Brian Baker and Chris Steele. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the ladies’ and men’s Sunday school class of Eastside Baptist Church, Dr. Richard Wall, Dr. Dale Cannon and Dr. Charles White Jr. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of the third floor at Tuomey Regional Medical Center for all of their care and kindness.
