| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Mary Lily B. Gamble Mary Lily Burgess Gamble, 83, widow of David Chalmers “Bill” Gamble Jr., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at a local nursing center. Born in Wadesboro, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Thomas LaFar Sr. and Annie Mae McGrady Burgess. Mrs. Gamble was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a recipient of an honorary lifetime membership in the Presbyterian Women. She was a graduate of Montreat College and was a former DCE in Greer, Lake City, and Sumter First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma’s Teacher’s Society and was a retired Crosswell Drive Elementary School teacher. Surviving are three sons, David Gamble and wife, Robin, of Anderson, Donnie Gamble and wife, Ginny, of Summerville and Billy Gamble and wife, Teri, of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Ann Geddings and husband, Vernon, of Sumter; nine grandchildren, Caleb Gamble, Halee Gamble Evans and husband, Jonathan, Taylor Geddings, Parker Geddings, Laura Kate Gamble, Benjamin Gamble, Mattie Gamble, Michael Gamble and Will Gamble; and one great-grandchild, Carter Evans. She was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Thomas L. Burgess Jr. and the Rev. James A. Burgess. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Janie McElwee Smith and the Rev. Cliff McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Turbeville Southern Methodist Church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 507 Mimosa Road. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to Montreat College, 310 Gaither Circle, Montreat, NC 28757.
