| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Harvey and Norma have 13 grandchildren HARVEY DOUGLAS PRICE Posted Saturday, June 17, 2023 6:00 am Harvey Douglas Price, 87, beloved husband of 68 years to Norma Elizabeth Strickland Price, died on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. Harvey was a loving husband, dad and Papa. He was born on July 24, 1935, in Horry County, a son of the late Herman Harlic Price and Martha Ada Jordan Price. Mr. Price attended Coker College and was a member of the United States Army. He retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. after 38 years of employment. As a follower of Jesus, Harvey was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Sumter, where he was a Sunday school records officer for more than 50 years. He was a deacon and served on numerous committees throughout the years. Harvey faithfully volunteered at the Crisis Closet of Sumter for many years after retirement. He was an avid gardener and friend to all. Surviving Mr. Price are his wife; four children, Michael D. Price (Dani) of Matthews, North Carolina, H. Stanley Price (Elisabeth) of North Augusta, L. Ray Price of Alcolu and Faith E. Joslin (Dan) of Sumter; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Annette Bertolani of Summerville, Melba Dean Huggins of Nichols and Erma Jean Cato (Bob) of Union; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Robert Cato officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. The family would like to give special thanks to Tammy Craft, Hospice Nurse and the staff at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital-Hospice Staff Members; Rob McMahon, NP-Palmetto Adult Medicine; Stephanie Brown, Papa's Jewel; and special neighbors, Jean and Jerry McAfee and family, Corinne Avin and Jerry Buckner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
