WILSON Special to The Item An area children's clothing consignment shop opened under a new name and new management on March 1, hoping to capitalize on the growing local consignment market. Sweet Repeats - formerly Peek-A-Boos - is owned by Lisa Burke, 30, a stay-at-home mom with a background in corporate communications. The former owner of the shop was looking to sell, so Burke said she jumped at the offer. After watching her 3-year-old daughter Harper grow quickly out of her own apparel, Burke knew there was need for a local children's clothing consignment business. "Most kids don't wear their clothes often enough to really wear them out," Burke said. From bathing suits to christening outfits, children's shoes and all types of baby gear, the store sells secondhand many of the sought-after items parents are looking for at a reduced price. Sweet Repeats also sells new hair bows as well as several homemade items. Clothing sizes run from preemie to children's size 10/12. The first step, Burke said when she bought the shop, was to clean house and update the building's look. She took out the center walls, which created a more open atmosphere and allowed for more floor merchandising. Burke said she also took great care in organizing the store so each item and size was categorized for easy shopping. As a shopper of secondhand clothing herself, Burke said she understands the frustrations of a mother who shops for her child. "If I have to look hard to find something, I'll leave," she said. "I would rather spend that time with my child." The store is basically split into sections for clothing: one for girls and one for boys. Burke said you can find anything from department store to name brand items in Sweet Repeats. With the impending rising temperatures, Burke said she has pulled typical summer clothing - bathing suits, Fourth of July outfits, shorts - to the middle section for easy access. Burke said a big draw is the sale rack that is frequently restocked. Those wishing to consign should bring their gently used clothing or baby items to the shop. As per store policy, Sweet Repeats will stock the items for 90 days, gradually reducing the price as the 90-day period draws to a close. Burke said she evenly splits the money with the consigner when an item is sold. Car seats or stuffed animals are not accepted. Currently, Sweet Repeats is accepting summer clothes and items for consignment. In August, the store will begin accepting fall and winter clothing. Sweet Repeats is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Born on March 9, 1957, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Dorothy Jane Hucks Larrimore and the late Willie McKever Larrimore. Mona loved music and dancing and was the past president of the Sumter Shag Club. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mona was a member of the Old Johnsonville United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Billy, and her mother, Dorothy, she is survived by her three children, William Justin McDaniel and his wife, Joy, of Cornelius, North Carolina, Lisa McDaniel Burke and her husband, Rick, of Sumter and Anna Victoria McDaniel of Lexington; three grandchildren, Taylor and Avery McDaniel and Harper Burke; and two nephews, Caleb Ladson Larrimore and Andrew Thomas Larrimore. In addition to her father and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Willie Mack Larrimore and Marvin Ladson Larrimore. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wes Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Justin McDaniel, Caleb Ladson Larrimore, Andrew Thomas Larrimore, Rick A. Burke, Derek Moore and Dale Hannah. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home.
