CALLEN Sr. LYNCHBURG - Monte H. "Tunnie" Callen Sr., 82, husband of Betty R. Callen, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Miller M. and Christine Webb Callen. Mr. Callen was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He owned and operated Callen Roofing Co. until his retirement. He was also a member of the SLC Shrine, Elks Club, American Legion, VFW and Sons of Confederate Veterans. Survivors besides his wife of Lynchburg include three sons, Monte H. Callen (Norma), Gregg N. Callen and Jeffrey Z. Callen (Donna); one daughter, Becky Thomas (David); and seven grandchildren, Doug Callen, David Callen, Zane Callen, Kristin Callen, Monica Thomas, Chelsea Thomas and Trey Thomas. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Robert Griggs and the Rev. Eric Truesdale officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1000 Pleasant Grove Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080.
