The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Herman White Jr., and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lemmon Shaw and Mrs. Charles Herman White Sr. and the late Dr. White, all of Sumter. She graduated from Wofford College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is an attorney with Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter. The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. George Murrell Smith of Sumter, and the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. John James Richardson of Florence and Mrs. Claude Wilson Smith and the late Mr. Smith of Sumter, formerly of Florence. He graduated from Wofford College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is an attorney with Lee, Erter, Wilson, James, Holler and Smith, LLC, in Sumter. He is also a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives representing District 67, Sumter and Clarendon counties. The Rev. Michael Lewis McGehee officiated at the ceremony. Music was provided by William Lee Scobee, organist; Mrs. Laura Pond Ballard and Marvin Kendrick Ballard III, vocalists; and Mrs. Katherine Richardson, bag piper. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory gown of silk satin featuring a low back embellished with a ruched waist of silk charmeuse, a bateau neckline and a chapel-length train. Mary Shaw White, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Martha Jo Smith, sister of the bridegroom, Leigh Childs Cantey, Christianna Kathryn Coates, Ella Jane Dickerson, Catherine Alice Whitesides, Kathryn Bowen Mullins, Rachel Denise North-Coombes, Katherine Randolph Annas, Mrs. Jamie Johnson Boyd and Mrs. Kelda Wannamaker Murphy. The bridegroom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Dr. James Culpeper Hill Smith and Dr. Triz Van Smith, brothers of the bridegroom, Arthur Robert Dodd, Edward Capers Hiott, Michael Thomas James, Hugh McFaddin McLaurin IV, Major Walter Lee Meares, Rep. Michael Dwain Thompson and Geoffrey Stewart DeLong. Ushers were Harry Steven DeBerry IV and Claude Wilson Smith III. The reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. The rehearsal party was given by the bridegroom's parents at their home.
