  HIST	of Columbia, South Carolina Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 Genova Abbott COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Genova Rucker Abbott, 80, will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved former husband, Charles L. Abbott. Her family will receive loved ones from 11-12 p.m., preceding her funeral service. Charlie Abbott, Barry Abbott, Ryan Abbott, Harold H. Hill, Jr., Paul Abbott and H. Heath Hill, Sr. will serve as pallbearers. Ms. Abbott died peacefully Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Born in Swansea, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clifton Sightler Rucker and Carrie Mae Bailey Rucker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. Surviving are her son, Donald L. Abbott of Lexington, SC; daughter, Peggy Abbott Sutton of Camden, SC; 5 grandchildren, Charles D. Abbott (Leslie), Barry D. Abbott, Dione M. Bates, Jennifer Hill Glover and Harold H. Hill, Jr. (Betsy); 5 great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Geneve Hyman of Columbia, SC; and two nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carolyn Abbott, her sister, Lucretia Christmas and her niece, Bobbie Watts. Ms. Abbott was known by many of those who loved her as “Jo.” She was a member of the Eastover, Columbia and Ridgeway communities, respectively. However, she considered her home on the river; she named “the Water’s Edge” at Lake Wateree, as her glimpse of heaven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Children’s Home.
