Services will be Sunday, April 29 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Charles Owens, the Rev. Donnie Collins, and the Rev. Dennis Michael Bowman. Pallbearers will be: Chuck Bourgeois, Doc Jolly, Henry McLeod, Jesse McLeod, Larry (Butch) McLeod, and Chris Oswald. Honorary pallbearers will be: Lee Blackmon, Ken Evans, Ronnie Morris, Bobby Rabon, Rev. Aaron Reed, and Gene Weatherly. Born in Richland County on March 13, 1938, he was the son of Bertha English. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Smith English; son, Tracy English, Jr. (Sandy Wheeler); daughter, Ruby (Kevin) McLendon; grandchildren, Elaine Freed (Ron); Rev. Dennis Michael Bowman (Kathy); Brittani English; Rebekah McLendon and Taylor McLendon; and great-grandchildren, Samuel and Cameron Bowman. He is also survived by sisters Polly McLeod and Betty Bajer Harris; and brothers Charles and Henry Bajer. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by brothers Billy English, Sidney English, Ernest English, and Danny Bajer; and sisters Jessie Mae English Bajer and Olivia English Smith. Mr. English retired in 2003 from Carolina Furniture Works, where he served as supervisor of the finishing department for 17 years. Prior to that, he was employed by Williams Furniture (Ga. Pacific) for 29 years as chair plant superintendent. He was an active member of Crosswell Baptist Church and a charter member of Evangelical Baptist Church for 29 years, where he served at various times as Sunday School Superintendent, Secretary-Treasurer, and Deacon. Mr. English was a loving and caring husband and father. Taking care of his family was his first priority. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, especially his children and grandchildren. He liked to fish, work in his yard and, in his younger days, to hunt. He always looked forward to his walks with his friend Gene, and his beloved dog Missy. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association . Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
