| HIST | I think I have some of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren mixed up. jkh ALOMA JEAN HARRELSON GAINEY Posted Thursday, September 3, 2020 6:00 am Aloma Jean Harrelson Gainey, 76, widow of Harvey L. Gainey Sr., departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, with her family by her side. Born on July 23, 1944, in Durham, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Roland H. and Florence Utsman Harrelson. Mrs. Gainey was a member of New Start Community Church of the Nazarene. When she was in good health, she loved to cook. She was a devoted wife and caregiver to her husband before his death. She loved her church, family and friends. Survivors include one son, Norman Paul Davis Sr. (Diane) of Sumter; a stepson, Harvey L. Gainey Jr. (Frances) of Sumter; one brother, Wayne Harrelson (Faye) of Roxboro, North Carolina; two sisters, Patricia Weaver of Stem, North Carolina, and Jackie Wade (Jimmy) of Cedar Grove, North Carolina; a son-in-law, Ray Hodge of Sumter; five grandchildren, Paul Davis Jr. (Cary Brown), Richard McCormick (Stephanie), Michael Hodge, Wayne Gainey and Elizabeth "Beth" Stoner (Glenn); six great-grandchildren, Matthew McCormick, Tayleigh McCormick, Jacob Sims, Morgan Davis, Bayleigh Davis and Keith Gainey; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Gail Hodge; and a brother, Herman Harrelson. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at New Start Community Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Dale Turner, the Rev. Donna Green and David Florence officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Davis Jr., Richard McCormick, Matthew McCormick, Eddie Joe Ardis, Eric "Peanut" Osborne, Michael Hodge, Wayne Gainey and Keith Gainey. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday at New Start Community Church of the Nazarene and other times at her home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital and Prisma Health Tuomey Home Health for the excellent care they provided. Memorials may be sent to New Start Community Church of the Nazarene, 4686 JW Rhames Road, Manning, SC 29102.
