| HIST | Ruth B. Bryant Ruth Burkett Bryant, widow of Max V. Bryant, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at the age of 88. Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late Alva and Annie Strange Burkett. She was an emeritus member of the Pilot Club of Sumter. She was a member of the Fellowship Class of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member for most of her life. She was a bookkeeper for many years. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Max Bryant Jr. of Harrison, Tenn., and David A. Bryant of the home; a sister, Mildred Breingan (Charlie) of Burlington, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Burkett of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one grandson, Jason C. Bryant (Kimi) of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Courtney Swafford (Jason); and great-grandchildren, Christopher Bryant, Gray Klassen and twin great-granddaughters, Emily and Katie Swafford of Dunlap, Tenn. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Anne Bryant; a grandson, Jeremy Scott Bryant; and a brother, Alva David Bryant. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Gorry officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 208 Woodwinds West Drive, Columbia, SC 29212. Online condolences may be sent to www.sumterfunerals.com.
