| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Jean Y. Booth Jean Young Booth, 83, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012. She was the widow of Lauren P. Booth and daughter of the late Samuel Lee and Jennie Mayer Young. A Winthrop College graduate, she was a member of the Junior Welfare League, the Sumter Art Association, the Daughters Book Club, the Sumter Trian and the Sumter Assembly. She served on several boards of local civic and charitable organizations. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, she served on several committees, and for many years was a Sunday school teacher and a volunteer at Trinity Community Center. Surviving are her son, Richard Lauren Booth and wife, Gayle, of Sumter; grandchildren, Jayne Rowell Booth and Richard Lauren Parrott Booth and his fiancée, Jamie Jackson; one brother, Samuel Parker Young and wife, Helen, of Camden; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Gorry officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Booth, 224 Haynsworth St., Sumter. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W.
