Campbell, 90, widow of Ernest Frank "Buck" Campbell Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at a local nursing facility. Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Johnson Hagood Carraway and Effie Jane Thompson Carraway. Mrs. Campbell was a member of Swan Lake Presbyterian Church and was retired from Pioneer Ltd. Survivors include a son, Ernest Frank Campbell Jr. (Sandra) of Jacksonville, Fla.; a grandson, E.F. "Ernie" Campbell III (Joy) of Memphis, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Stephanie Ruhl (Jim) of Fleming Island, Fla., Julie Kindall (Adam) of Camden and Melissa Mims (Chris) of Sumter; a step-granddaughter, Alice Monteith (Gary) of Asheville, N.C.; three great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; two step-great-granddaughters; a half sister, Frankie Britton (J.C.) of Manning; a special nephew who was there when she needed him most, Warren Carraway (Celeste) of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a much-loved son, Thomas Durant Campbell. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Sumter Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Ken Thomas officiated. The family received friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Swan Lake Presbyterian Church, 912 Haynsworth St., Sumter SC 29150.
