Hodge Friel, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late William Leo Friel Sr. and Leila Mae White Friel Collins. Mr. Friel was affiliated with Green Acres Assembly of God and was a self-employed electrician. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; three sons, William Leo Friel III, John Simmons and wife, Tori, and William Daniel Friel, all of Sumter; a daughter, Bridget L. Harrington and husband, Edward, of Paxville; two brothers, the Rev. Donnie E. Collins and wife, Miriam, of Sumter and Linwood LeRoy Collins of Summerton; three sisters, Madeline Brown, Marcell Hill and husband, Larry, and Drucilla Lynch and husband, Larry, all of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lynch and husband, Edward, of Sumter; four grandchildren, John David Simmons, Kimberly Simmons, Edward Harrington Jr. and Danielle Harrington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Friel and Ernest David Collins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Green Acres Assembly of God with the Revs. Donnie E. Collins and Edward Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the home, 3260 Butterworth Circle.
