| HIST | of Rembert, South Carolina Is Silas’s father Silas Singleton? Silas Singleton In the early evening of Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, Silas "Silo" Singleton transitioned into eternal rest at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by family and friends that loved him, but realized that His Savior was calling him from labor to reward. He was born on March 26, 1956, in Sumter County. Silas was a son of Lula Mae Singleton of Sumter and the husband of Patricia "Kitty" Singleton of Rembert. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church. "Silo," as he was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School. He served six years in the United States Army. He was formerly employed with Becton Dickinson, Sumter County Detention Center and Cooper Tools. His knowledge of cars gained him the title of "a shade-tree mechanic." Family and friends depended on him to keep their cars running smoothly. Silo was a loving, caring, jovial and very kindhearted person. To know him was to love him. He never met a stranger who remained a stranger if they stayed in his presence for any length of time. He thrived on imparting his "own" wisdom to all he met. Silo was preceded in death by one brother, Sammie Singleton; and his maternal grandparents, Silas and Laura Singleton. He leaves to mourn his homegoing while cherishing his memories: his wife and his mother; four wonderful sons, 1st Sgt. DeAndre Maurice (Kathy) of El Paso, Texas, Damon Danielle, Silas Derrick and Deon Datrelle, all of Rembert; one brother, Deacon John Singleton, (Steral); two sisters, Margaret Carson of Goldsboro, N.C., and Pamela S. Millhouse of Sumter; his mother-in-law, Sallie Sanders of Rembert; six aunts, Janet Grant, Bernice Hill, Ophelia Spencer, Laura Moore, the Rev. Lillian Reynolds of Sumter, and Connie Collier (Jimmy) of Maryland; eight grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; three very special girls, Randolyn "CoCo" Harry, Ebony English and Erica Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, 3860 S.C. 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, pastor, presiding, the Rev. Burdell Hill, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Lillian Reynolds, Minister William Sanders and Elder Julius Price. The family will receive friends at the family home, 5059 Dennis Road, Rembert. The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The funeral procession will leave from the family home 1:30 p.m. Floral bearers will be friends and family. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
