Griffin, 92, widower of Shirley Sanders Watkins Griffin, died on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at his home. Born on June 12, 1930, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Nathaniel Griffin and Clemmie Ingram Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and attended Pinewood Baptist Church. He retired from the Murray Biscuit Co. and was the owner of Griffin Rentals. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Neal (Eddie) of Sumter; a stepdaughter, Linda Hansen (Tony) of Sumter; a stepson, Mark Watkins (Susan) of San Diego, California; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Dickard, Lucy Silva and Kayla Hansen; two grandsons, Ryan Neal and T.J. Hansen; three great-granddaughters, Lauren Dickard, Rosemary Silva and Abbie Hansen; five great-grandsons, Walt Dickard, Griffin Dickard, Eddie Silva, Landon Griswold and Ty Hansen; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Ruth "Lucy" Condrey Griffin; three sisters, Cleo Jackson, Mary Lou Truluck and Florence Jackson; and five brothers, James Griffin, Carroll Griffin, Charlton Griffin, Robert Griffin and William Griffin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Bethel Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Bennie Barwick. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be T.J. Hansen, Landon Griswold, Eric Dickard, Walt Dickard, Reyes Silva and Bill Atkins. Jimbo Coulter will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday at Bethel Baptist Church and other times at the home. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dee Stegall and the staff of Amedisys Hospice, along with Carolyn Demore, Shirley McBride, Stephanie Bryant, Karen Newman, Nellie Polanco and other special caregivers for the exceptional care they provided during Mr. Griffin's illness.
